This iconic annual procession - where The King, The Queen, and the Knights process in grand velvet robes, glistening insignia, and plumed hats - is one of the most traditional ceremonies in the Royal calendar.

Since its creation, generations of members of the Royal Family have been appointed to the Order, with the Monarch as its “Sovereign.”

Today, The King and The Prince of Wales - as Sovereign and Heir - are automatically given membership of the Order and are considered “ex officio knights,” with the power to admit new members.
