Who controls the skies?

Ground Control – Manages taxiing, apron movements, and taxiways. No plane takes a step without their authorization.

Tower Control – Authorizes takeoffs and landings, monitoring immediate runway movement.

Center Control (Area Control or ACC) – Manages en route flights, ensuring minimum separations of 5 nautical miles laterally and 1,000 feet vertically. This is where planes cross oceans and continents without risk of collision.

Approach Control – Guides descending planes, organizing incoming traffic and preparing them for safe landing.

Ground Control (post-landing) – Takes over again to direct the aircraft to the gate.

From pushback to final parking, each phase of the flight is monitored by different teams, like a symphony of precision and coordination.
